Run The Yard is a powerful extension of Tech on the Yard, bringing together culture, wellness, and purpose for HBCU communities.

Run The Yard is a powerful extension of Tech on the Yard, a national initiative by the MBS.Tech Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3), created by founder Miranda Stanfield to continue her mission of expanding access and opportunity for HBCU students.

Built on the same belief that technology and education are gateways to equity and generational transformation, the initiative was designed to provide direct financial support through scholarship funding and community-driven investment.

Through Run The Yard, Miranda is bringing together culture, wellness, and purpose to ensure that deserving students not only have access to education but also the resources, support, and community needed to thrive and lead in the next generation of innovation.

Experienced runners racing for time. You train regularly and push for a personal best.

Run The Yard is a 5K Run/Walk and Kids Dash organized by Tech on the Yard, a national initiative by the MBS.Tech Foundation (501(c)(3)). It brings together HBCU students, alumni, D9 organizations, and community members for a day of wellness, culture, and purpose—all while raising funds for HBCU scholarships.
The event is on May 31, 2026 at Fort Dupont Park in Washington, DC. The Kids Dash begins at 7:15 AM and the official 5K Run/Walk starts at 8:00 AM.
The 5K Run/Walk registration is $47 per participant. The Kids Dash registration is $30 per participant. All participants who register in advance will receive a free event t-shirt.
The Kids Dash is open to all children. It's a 1-mile course designed to be fun and encouraging. The first-place finisher will receive a brand new Apple laptop!
Yes! All participants who register in advance will receive a free event t-shirt. T-shirt availability for day-of registration is not guaranteed, so we encourage you to sign up early.
You can apply directly on this page by scrolling to the Scholarship section and completing the application form. Applicants must be currently enrolled at an accredited HBCU with a minimum 2.5 GPA. The deadline is May 15, 2026.

Absolutely! We need volunteers for course support, registration, hydration stations, and more. Sign up through the Volunteer form in the Get Involved section. Volunteers also receive an event t-shirt.
Yes! Run The Yard is designed for the whole family. We have the Kids Dash for young runners, a live DJ, community activities, and a welcoming atmosphere for all ages. Spectators are welcome and encouraged!
Proceeds from Run The Yard support HBCU scholarships and the mission of the MBS.Tech Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3), which expands access to technology and education for HBCU students. Your participation and donations directly fund scholarships and community programs.
To ensure safety and the best experience, the 5K uses a wave start system where faster runners go first:

⚡ Wave 1 — Competitive Runner: Under 8:00 min/mile
🏃 Wave 2 — Steady Runner: 8:00 – 10:00 min/mile
🚶 Wave 3 — Casual Runner / Jogger: 10:00 – 13:00 min/mile
🚶‍♀️ Wave 4 — Walker: 13:00+ min/mile

Waves release approximately 2 minutes apart starting at 8:00 AM. You'll select your pace group during registration. Not sure which one? Just pick what feels right — there's no wrong answer!
Yes, Fort Dupont Park has available parking. Details on specific parking areas and any overflow parking will be sent to registered participants via email prior to race day. We also encourage carpooling or using public transportation.
Registrations are non-refundable as proceeds support HBCU scholarships. However, you may transfer your registration to another person up to 7 days before the event. Contact info@techontheyard.com for transfer requests. In the event of a weather cancellation, registrants will be contacted with rescheduling information.
Yes! The MBS.Tech Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. A donation receipt will be emailed to you for your records.
